Overview

Con Dao islands are a group of 16 islands. Con Dao served as a prison island for political prisoners during the French colonial era, and in later years the Saigon regime imprisoned opponents of the regime in the infamous cells known as the "tiger cages". Besides having an interesting history, Con Dao is also an island of immense natural beauty with forested hills, deserted sandy beaches and extensive coral reefs making for some excellent diving.

  • Visit Bay Canh Islet covered by primitive forest, mangroves under the offshore island ecosystem with 882 plant species and 150 species of animal. Here, you will have the opportunity to snorkeling to admire coral, fish and other marine species living on coral reefs. Discovering Bay Canh Island is one of the impressive things to do in Con Dao.
  • Chill out at Dam Trau Beach, located in the north of main island, symbolic to a yellow ribbon tied across the green carpet, half woods half astride let loose on the surface. The impression of the majestic mountains, deep feeling of blue sea and endless inspiration for anyone in this place, even the most demanding visitors to see softened.
  • Feel Con Dao with Tiger Cages. Unlike a “typical” prison cell, a tiger cage only has bars on the ceiling, and the walls are solid concrete. This allowed the guards to monitor and torture the prisoners from above by prodding them with long sticks through the barred ceiling (as a vicious zookeeper might poke at a captive animal). The concentration of suffering in the tiger cages is unfathomable. The deeper you force yourself to imagine, the harder it becomes to find a way back to the surface.
